Easter encouragements at Laird Street

In recent weeks we've hosted our third Messy Church, seen new members join - and a lady gave her life to Christ on Good Friday, writes Cathy Buntin

Laird St Messy EasterIt has been a busy time. On Sunday, 6 April we were delighted to welcome two new members into the fellowship, and this was followed on by a communion service. After this we had an Easter Messy Sunday afternoon where we welcomed 14 amazing children with their mums dad's and carers.

The atmosphere was buzzing and the children enjoyed making so many different crafts related to Easter. They especially enjoyed singing two Easter songs and listening to the Easter story in poetic form. They also receiving a gift bag including a book of the story they had watched on video. They all enjoyed sharing in pizza tea and hot cross buns.

We have a 90 year old in our fellowship and he very kindly built a tomb for us (shown in the picture), and a moving stone and the children loved painting this. Age is no barrier at Laird Street.

Laird St Messy Easter tombIt's always a pleasure to share the gospel, and especially with children who are so eager to hear more about Jesus.

We started Messy Church last summer and we were not sure if any children would arrive. They did, had a wonderful time, and asked when the next one was, so we did one last Christmas.

This was our third one, and each time we get the same children.

How great is our God who himself welcomed the little children taking them, into his arms and blessing them.

Our Good Friday service was a joint service with our lovely friends at Grange Baptist. It was a reflective service of readings focusing on different characters connected to Jesus and the Easter story.

After the service we continued in fellowship over tea/coffee and hot cross buns.

There were many conversations following on from the service but the best of them was a 90 year old lady who joined our church family a year ago and she gave her life to Jesus on Good Friday. You can imagine the emotion and joy and it wasn't just the angels rejoicing that day. A lovely end to a lovely time of worship and fellowship with Grange.

The lady in question is very shy and I encouraged her to stand up and share what had happened, and she did.

What a blessed start to our Easter Celebrations and how great is our God!
