New Firestarters conversations for 2024

Three new Firestarters conversations, which enable congregations to rediscover a passion to help new people become Christians, are taking place in Baptist churches this year

Firestarters conversations

Chrissy Remsberg and Alex Harris of the Firestarters Network are delighted to announce three new Firestarter conversations for 2024.

Firestarters conversations are gatherings of leadership teams and diaconates learning from the stories of growing churches.

These conversations provide opportunities for team to think together about the ways God is calling them to change and develop to reach people for Jesus.

Intentionally kept small to aid conversation they are held over two days. At each conversation the first day has multiple voices from different Baptist churches and contexts contributing for broad learning and lessons.

The second day is action planning – developing a purposeful and practical plan of action for the church going forward. Alex and Chrissy host all the conversations. Sponsorship from our Baptists Together family means each conversation costs only £25 per person for two days, including lunch and refreshments.

The three new conversations are:

Hosted at Hinckley Baptist Church, Leicestershire on 30 April-1 May.

Hosted at Coleford Baptist Church, Gloucestershire on 4-5 June.

Hosted at Beacon Church, Staffordshire on 3-4 September.
This conversation has a particular focus on churches wanting to or who are exploring a mircochurch, scattered model or missional community approach to mission and discipleship.

'The Firestarters Network two-day conversations have a real track record of helping ordinary churches rediscover a passion to help new people become Christians, along with practical tools to equip them to do just that,' said Chrissy and Alex.

'The conversations are provocative but encouraging; inspiring and yet achievable. Churches consistently report the conversations increase the number of people they see baptised as new Christians.'

These conversations are ideal for:

  • Staff and/or leadership teams, especially of lay people and volunteer leaders, to spend 24 hours together with the expectation of fresh energy and renewed vigour.
  • Ministers coming along to be inspired, challenged and re-invigorated in what God might do with their leadership.
  • Emerging leaders to gain an early experience of churches that are growing fast.
  • Small churches needing a reminder that it is churches just like theirs God is using.
  • Regional or trans-local leaders wanting to connect with churches in the midst of significant growth.
  • Larger churches feeling stationary or stagnated and wondering why, or wanting a learning community more focussed on mission, evangelism and growing through new people becoming Christians.
  • Churches with good momentum wanting to capitalise on that.

Alongside the conversations you can access the Firestarters Network shared learning via podcasts, books and other resources at: www.firestartersuk.com.

Firestarters Network is co-led by Chrissy Remsberg and Alex Harris.

Chrissy is the pastor of Beacon Church in Stafford, a Baptist church exploring scattered models of mission and discipleship.

Alex is a Baptist Regional Minister for Church Planting and Pioneering, and Director of Planting for the St Hild Centre for Church Planting. Together they co-authored On this Rock in 2023 and will release a second book Scattered not Small in 2024.
