Ripples of Change - a service of celebration and thankfulness

A service has been organised to mark the role Jane Day served in our Baptist family as Centenary Enabler, combining thankfulness for the progress made to ‘create an equal space for women in all leadership roles’ as well as a time of lament for many of the findings of Project Violet.

Ripples of Change Event

Like many Associations we in the CBA and SCBA have been engaging with the call to lament in response to the Project Violet findings, and there has been much to lament for!

However, as Clare Hooper, the joint Regional Team Leader for the SCBA and myself started to talk about how we would move forward with the changes Project Violet suggests, we both felt that there was room for thankfulness as well as lament.

As female ministers and leaders we had both been so blessed by Jane Day and the role she has played in our lives and our Association, and we both felt that it was important to mark and give thanks for the role she served in our Baptist family as Centenary Enabler.

As this particular role comes to an end, we felt it was important to reflect on the impact Jane has had, and express our thanks to God for the commitment of the Baptist Union to provide such a wonderful agent of change for the last six years.

To this end we have planned  a service of thankfulness, which is very different to a thanksgiving service! Jane is very much alive and well! We wanted to follow the story of how the role of the Centenary Enabler came about and the vision that led to Project Violet.

We will hear from women who have experienced change as a result of Jane’s work and celebrate together in worship and liturgy for all that has been achieved. We will also be looking to the future for all that is still to come. The title reflects the ongoing ‘ripple effect’ of this work as we hope to see justice rolling like a river for all women in Baptists Together.

If you would like to join us, we would love to see you there as we celebrate such a significant season of our lives as Baptists Together!
