'We want to encourage each church to fulfil its unique calling in their community'

The Small Church Connexion is celebrating the first year of planting small church hubs around the UK, totalling 12 in all, from Leicestershire to Devon, writes Hilary Taylor

Many thanks go to all the hub hosts and for all those who came. Across the 12 hubs we have gathered 55 different churches, 228 attendees and five Regional Ministers. Some of the early hubs have held at least three events each, and the hubs that started in September onwards are looking to book events in the new year.

There have been a variety of events including gifting workshops, worship and stories, diaconate training, safeguarding training and a creativity workshop.

Here are some comments from those who attended:

  • The event was very good. Good balance between presentations and discussion time.
  • Really enjoyable and encouraging
  • A worthwhile, stirring event!
  • Thank you very much for a stimulating and helpful morning
  • Many thanks for giving your time to get this started in this area.
  • A good opportunity to meet with other folks and hear their stories and what they are doing.
  • It was very eye opening to hear about everyone’s troubles and successes.

The idea of the hubs is to gather the smaller churches together for mutual encouragement, storytelling, training and celebration.

We aim to keep it local so each hub church is within a 30 minutes drive of the host church building.

We want to encourage each church to fulfil its unique calling in their community, aiming to keep loving God, loving people and making disciples central.

This is maybe through sharing resources and working together on local projects in new and effective ways.
