The Revd Wilfred Bryan Stanbury: 1940-2021

Minister with “a pastor’s heart” who leaves many people, both young and old, indebted to him for his care and friendship, both spiritual and practical

Wilf StanburyWilf trained at Surgeon’s College.  His first pastorate was at Uckfield, 1978-1981; followed by Eynsford  (1981-1999) and Bromley Common (2000-2006).

He “retired” to Clare, Suffolk, but like many pastors he never really retired. He preached regularly at various churches, his last engagement only eight weeks before his death from cancer.

He also worked as a locum Chaplain at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, only stopping in the first Covid lockdown in March 2020.

He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians.

In his younger days he had a variety of employments including an apprenticeship as a carpenter and five years in the R.A.F. medical corps.

He was a devoted family man and leaves behind his wife, 3 children and 10 grandchildren.

He always maintained that he had “a pastor’s heart” and this was demonstrated so clearly over the years. He leaves many people, both young and old, indebted to him for his care and friendship, both spiritual and practical.
