Joyce Mary Wainwright: 1934-2024

Served with BMS World Mission for more than 25 years and then as a deacon and church secretary with Long Buckby and Brington Baptist Church, Joyce lived a full and blessed life and was a faithful servant to her Lord

Joyce Mary WainwrightAfter obtaining her degree in mathematics from University College London in 1954 and qualifying as a teacher in 1956, Joyce felt a clear calling to missionary service. She attended the BMS women’s training college in Birmingham and then worked, with her husband Duncan, for BMS World Mission, for more than 25 years in East Pakistan, Darjeeling and Kotagiri, India.

She moved to Arnesby, Leicestershire in 1986 where she ran a Christian conference centre as a minister’s wife for 13 years.

In 1999 Joyce and Duncan moved to Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, where she continued to serve faithfully as a deacon and church secretary at Long Buckby and Brington Baptist Church for many years.

She was President and an active member of the Long Buckby W.I,  sang in the local community choir and was well known in the village.

Joyce passed away suddenly, but very peacefully, into the presence of her saviour on Sunday 10 March 2024, aged 89. She lived a full and blessed life and was a faithful servant to her Lord.

Joyce will be dearly missed by her two sons, David and Andrew, four grandchildren, her church family and by many others in the UK and around the world who knew and loved her.  We thank God for her life and service.

A Service of Thanksgiving in celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 2pm on Monday 22 April 2024 at Long Buckby and Brington Baptist Church, Market Place, Long Buckby, NN6 7RR. All are welcome to attend.
