A song for the brokenhearted

Refuge, based on Psalm 34:18, is the latest single from worship leader and songwriter Luke Wareham

Refuge single2Luke of Clevedon Baptist Church in Somerset, teams up with his friend Matt Caddick, pastor at Counterslip Baptist Church in South Bristol, for this latest offering.

He describes Refuge as 'a song for the brokenhearted,' explaining that it comes from a journey of grief in his own and his fiancée's life through the experience of losing loved ones to Covid 19 and terminal illness.

In Psalm 34:18 David writes that "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit".

Luke said, '2021 might not have delivered the fresh new start that many of us had hoped for, but we can walk through this year knowing that we never go through our struggles alone as we have a God who will never leave us.

‘Jesus sees us, weeps with us and longs to draw close to us. As people listen and worship to this song we hope that it would help to draw people near to God and trust in him.

‘My prayer is that the song would speak into people’s lives, especially those who find themselves in a time of struggle, and help them to hold onto the hope Jesus brings.’

Matt, who co-wrote and performs on the track, added, ‘We are really excited about this song, mainly the truth behind it that Jesus is our refuge, he is our rock, he is our hiding place. If there is a message we need to hold onto now it is that!’

Luke has released a string of songs over the past year. Glimpse was based on Psalm 34, and also co-written with Matt and his longtime collaborator Rachel Mason.  Luke and Rachel released their first EP Whisper in March 2020, with the song Whisper making it to number 11 in the UK Christian Music Charts. The EP was subsequently voted number one in the Louder than Music awards in February. Louder than Music shares Christian music news, reviews and interviews. The lockdown worship anthem I will not fear was released in September.

Refuge is available to stream and download on all music platforms and the brand new lyric video is on YouTube, along with Luke’s other songs. The chords to the song are available to download via SongSelect.  Download here - linktr.ee/warehamluke
