Double anniversary at Bristol church

Keynsham Baptist Church, and its minister Kevin Durrant, is marking a double anniversary this September

Kevin and Ros DurrantKevin has now been at Keynsham Baptist Church for a full year, and this year also marks his 20th year in ministry.

After quite a long period of pastoral vacancy Kevin's arrival was greatly welcomed. Since his arrival much has been happening led by his enthusiasm and with the support of his wife Ros.

'Leaving my previous church where I had been minister for 17 years was a very big step,' Kevin said, 'but I have been met with friendship and enthusiasm for change and progress here in Keynsham.'

Recently with the work of their youngest member Katherine Morgan the church has established its presence on Facebook and is currently working on upgrading its website.

An accomplished violinist and guitarist, Kevin has been working to establish a small music group at the church. While it is a work in progress it has two violins, guitar, flute and African drum. The group has played on a number of occasions and three of their number played at the civic service for Cllr Alan Hale during his year as Chairman of Bath and North East Somerset Council.

"If anyone is searching for a church" continued Kevin "and can play an instrument then then we would be pleased to welcome you, equally we would welcome anyone looking to find a church to become part of the fellowship."

Over the last year the Tea and Tots group that the church runs on a Friday has grown in number attending and the activities on each day has been developed.

Church Secretary John Bishop said, 'Kevin has been a breath of fresh air to the church and its membership and we look forward to many more productive years.'

Kevin is also a member of the Churches Together in Keynsham and Saltford Executive and its link with the Keynsham Foodbank, and believes that the churches working in partnership is vital as this town grows significantly.

The church holds its services at 10.30am on Sundays with an open table communion on the first Sunday of the month, and on Tuesday at 7.30pm with an open table communion on the third Tuesday. The Tuesday evening is not always a formal service and has discussions and matters of interest. On 5 September it held a 'Desert Island Disc' evening with member Alan Hale to celebrate his past year as Chairman of B&NES Council.
