Baptist Historical Society webinars launched

More than 40 people participated in the first in a series of four webinars Uncovering Baptist Stories developed by the Baptist Historical Society

The first event held on Thursday 24 September reflected on "Dissent" featuring a keynote address by leading Baptist historian, Dr Ruth Gouldbourne, and featuring responses from Dr Craig Gardiner from South Wales Baptist College  and Mrs Julie Bryan, a pioneer minister in training at Northern Baptist College, from the north of England. After the presentation and responses questions were invited from webinar participants and stimulated a lively discussion on dissent today.

Further webinars will be held on Thursdays 1 , 8 and 15 October. The theme on 1 October is "fellowship", 8 October "discernment" and 15 October "theology and mission".

Contributors include:
  • Week 2: (1 Oct) Fellowship & Connection — Chair: Christine Joynes, Historian: Stephen Copson, Respondents: Wale-Hudson-Roberts, Andy Goodliff
  • Week 3: (8 Oct) Discerning Together — Chair: Mark Ord, Historian: Karen Smith, Respondents: Gale Richards, Ruth Moriarty
  • Week 4: (15 Oct) Theology to Mission — Chair: Doreen Morrison, Historian: Peter Morden, Respondents: Rosemarie Davidson-Gotobed, Kang-San Tan

President of the Society, Keith Jones, said, 'This is a response to a request by Baptist Union General Secretary, Lynn Green, and appears to have hit the mark in interest and involvement.'
