The Revd Jack Ramsbottom: 1926-2019
Former draughtsman who became a Baptist minister and Bible college tutor
Jack was educated in Saltaire, West Yorkshire at Salt High School. He went on to train as a jig and tool draughtsman at Jowett Cars. The advent of war led to his volunteering in the Fleet Air Arm and about this time he became a Christian. He was confirmed in Lichfield Cathedral.
After the war Jack enrolled at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow, which resulted in a short period in India as a missionary along with his wife Pamela and their daughter Elizabeth. Their family eventually extended to include Helen, Paul and Donna.
Following the trip to India Jack’s ministry began, first in Bethel Baptist Church in Shipley, then Sandy Lane Baptist Church Bradford and on to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Scarborough where the Church hosted a Songs of Praise Service. An opportunity to study at Regents Park College, Oxford was taken and the family moved to Kidlington where Jack took leadership of the Baptist Church there, seeing its growth both physically and spiritually.
Taking up the role of Tutor in Pastoral Theology at the then London Bible College meant another move, this time to Chesham in Buckinghamshire.
On retirement Jack worked alongside Tim Stone at Broadway Baptist Church Chesham, as well as preaching in the surrounding area.
