The Revd John Comins: 1940-2017

A great husband, dad, grandad, friend and minister, someone who cared for all those he came in contact with

JohnCominsJohn was an accredited Baptist minister for the last 17 years and before that a minister with Assemblies of God from 1961–1999.

Until his retirement John was minister of Forest Street Baptist Church, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was also part time chaplain at Ashfield Community Hospital.

John was born and brought up in Lincoln. His parents were Christians and he was the eldest of five children: he had two brothers and two sisters, all married and serving Christ in Australia, South Africa and Lincoln.

He felt the call of God on his life in his early teens and after leaving school and doing two years engineering apprenticeship, went to train for the ministry at Kenley Assemblies of God Bible College. He and Maureen met in their early teens and were married in December 1961. They served God in a number of places.

John was a devoted husband and father to Mark and Joy. He loved his family, Mark and wife Wendy and two grandsons Owen and Alex, and Joy and husband Mark.

We as a family greatly miss him, but thank God for every remembrance of him. We are thankful for the many lives that have been touched by his ministry and care and the blessing of his Bible teaching ministry.

The Revd John Bayes conducted the service of thanksgiving at Forest Street Baptist Church on 9 August where around 200 gathered to remember and give thanks for John's life. We went out of Church to the music of 'Jesus shall take the highest honour', which was the thing that was uppermost in John's life and ministry.

We thank God for a great husband, dad, grandad, friend and minister, someone who cared for all those he came in contact with.
