Oasis College shorter courses focus

Oasis College of Higher Education has announced it is to switch attention from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes towards shorter foundation and continuing professional development (CPD) courses

Oasis College

The college has provided teaching and learning in the field of work and ministry with children, young people, families and communities for the past 25 years.

In a statement, it said it recognised 'a changing landscape in the field of theological education as a key motivator behind this change.'

Over the past three years, a number of institutions delivering similar programmes have had to cease or dramatically alter provision as a result of changing interests and resources of students, it stated. The decision to cease recruitment towards these particular streams was made by the College Board and will be effective from this academic year as attention shifts towards CPD and short courses. All current degree courses will continue in full until students have graduated.

In addition the college acknowledged the struggle to recruit 'a substantial and sustainable student cohort' for full time courses over the past few years as another factor behind this decision.

Adrian Smith, Principal of Oasis College, said, 'We are thankful for the shared knowledge, partnerships, achievements and fellowship which have come from current students and alumni over the past 25 years.

'Despite this decision, Oasis College will still be a committed provider of academic and professional training in youth work, church and community, Children and Families within the context of a Christian Community for all its current students.'

Oasis Founder, the Revd Steve Chalke said, 'Oasis College of Higher Education has developed over the last quarter of a century into what I believe is a unique and world class provider of theological teaching and practical learning around community development.

'Over these decades we have evolved constantly in order to deliver a wide range of cutting-edge courses specialising in the support and nurture of children, youth, families and local communities.

'From its small beginnings back in 1991 it is spectacular to see the amazing impact that our alumni have had in so many areas of society as well as how they have spread the values and example of Jesus in a range of other careers, from lawyers and social workers to CEOs of local and national charities.

'Now it is time to evolve again.'
