Baptists invited to join Thy Kingdom Come

Baptist churches are being invited to take part in a global wave of prayer in the period between Ascension and Pentecost

Thy Kingdom Come is an initiative of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and seeks to unite Christians in praying together for people to know Jesus Christ.

It launched as an invitation to parishes in England in 2016, but this year the vision is bigger with many denominations taking part. The Free Churches Group is actively encouraging all its member churches, of which our Baptist Union is one, to get involved. Members of the Baptist Steering Group discussed and commended the initiative at their September meeting.

Provinces across the Anglican Communion have been invited to join the wave of prayer, and the World Methodist Council is encouraging all Methodists to warmly receive and actively participate in it.

The three aims are:

  •     To join in prayer with the whole family of God the Father
  •     To pray for the empowering of God the Holy Spirit
  •     That we may be effective witnesses to God the Son, Jesus Christ.

Thy Kingdom Come takes place between 25 May and 4 June.
