Climate change: get off the fence!

Everyone shares responsibility for the future of our planet, argues David Kerrigan as BMS World Mission’s Worth Saving initiative begins

It’s easy to sit on the fence when it comes to climate change, especially when there are so many different opinions. That’s what David Kerrigan admits in an exclusive article on the recent COP21 conference written for Worth Saving, BMS’ new creation care resource, emailed to hundreds of subscribers this week (4 January 2016).
 
“For every opinion, you’ll find an opposite opinion; for every believer, in spite of scientific consensus that climate change is occurring, you’ll find a sceptic,” he says. “Sitting on the fence is understandable but, I’m sorry, it’s also indefensible. Every person should take an interest in this, forming our own opinions, and taking a stand accordingly. This is a responsibility none of us can pass up.”

In the article, David shares four key points about the December United Nations conference where world leaders committed to targets to lessen the impact of rising temperatures. He believes creation care is not only for world leaders to tackle, but Christians too.
 
“As Christians we have an obligation to care for our world, knowing that the damage we’re beginning to see now will adversely affect millions, primarily the most marginalised, in decades ahead. That alone is enough to get started,” he says.
