Drive to combat human trafficking
Fleckney Baptist Church's Youth Alpha group take part in sponsored go-kart event to raise funds for an anti-trafficking organisation
Twelve members of Fleckney Baptist Church’s Youth Alpha group, all aged between 14 and 21 years, spent a whole 24 hours in June driving Go-Karts around a specially constructed track in the church car park.
The group was divided into two teams of six who raced each other around the track, covering in total 6,400 laps, an estimated 420 miles in 24 hours.
So why did they do it? The group had become aware of the horrors involved in human trafficking which is estimated to be one of the most prolific crimes in the world today – third only to drugs and arms trafficking.
Human trafficking occurs mostly to support sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, forced marriage and the sale of organs or body parts.
Fleckney’s Youth Alpha group decided to support the Red Light Anti-Human Trafficking organisation which has been set up in South Africa to create awareness of the extent of human trafficking and to find ways of combating it.
The Go-Karting event was sponsored and the group are to be congratulated in raising a total of £600, which will go in its entirety to this organisation.
