Re: Responding to the Government's Illegal Migration bill
I read the JPIT statement with interest.
Despite agreement with the Government that small boat channel crossing should be stopped the only hint of a solution offered seemed to be more safe routes.
Instead of berating the Government over such a complex and difficult issue over which they have no control and are not responsible why not help them find a positive way forward.

I feel that this is a very one sided response to a very difficult situation. I believe that our country is very welcoming of the stranger in our midst. But there must be controls to immigration and it must be legal. If no action is taken then it could well result in an increase in racist attitudes. It could foster extremist ‘right wing’ views.
I think it important to stress that not every Baptist is supportive of this action by the Baptist Union. There should be space for dissenting voices.

The Government has repeatedly said it is “doing what the public wants”. Anyone reading this: please write to your MP to show what the general public actually want. Your voice has power - use it.

So glad to see our churches standing up on this. Thank you
