Supporting an international foodbank
Since the start of August 2021, Warley Baptist Church in Oldbury has been actively involved in supporting food.gives, the international Christian food bank - an initiative of Barnabas Fund which shares food with hungry believers around the world
More than 20 million more people across the world have been pushed into extreme food insecurity because of the impact of Covid 19. Around 155 million people from across 55 countries are experiencing extreme levels of food insecurity.
Located in the heart of Warley for more than 85 years, Warley Baptist is far more than a place of Sunday worship.
So when church member Jen Butler received a leaflet in the post about the new food.gives initiative, she wondered if the church could get involved.
'Wanting to help I read they were asking for church representatives as well as individuals, I thought getting this into my church would be the best way to help Barnabas.
'That night I prayed on it and the next morning I felt God was strongly calling me to take the next step. I approached the church trustees who agreed I could bring this into the church. Next I made contact with Barnabas Fund and so began Warley Baptist Church journey with food.gives.
'The congregation, members and the community have welcomed the opportunity to give food donations of dried food, chickpeas, lentils, rice, flour, salt and non fragranced soap to help some of the neediest places across the world, including countries in Africa, Asia, South-East Asia and the Middle East.'
