Church Open Day Success

July 2012

A local church raised more than £400 at its summer fayre and open day

Church open day success 20 Jul
North End Baptist Church's event in Portsmouth last Saturday, sold cakes, plants, books and refreshments as well as running stalls like guess the weight of the cake and a tombola.

The church members also set up displays for every group that uses, or is connected with the church, so the local community could find out more about activities they or their families could get involved with.

The stalls included 8th Portsmouth Girls' Brigade and 4th Portsmouth Boys' Brigade groups, Street Pastors, Sunday School and the church's craft group. The church's music group also performed at intervals throughout the fayre and open day.

The local community also got the chance to have a proper look 'behind the scenes' of the building, in Powerscourt Road, North End, taking in the room upstairs and the baptistry.

Church secretary Jayne Howard said 'We had around 150 people come along to our summer fayre, which was a great turnout considering the bad weather. It was a really enjoyable day with lots of smiles and laughter and a great way to meet people who live nearby.'

A number of people also attended the church's 'big welcome' event the next day to see the church in action - doubling the congregation from around 40 to around 80.
