Groups & Activities at your Baptist Listed Building

We know that Baptist churches come in all shapes and sizes, and as such use their listed buildings in all sorts of ways! Whether distinct in your style of worship or offering a particular combination of activities in response to your local circumstances, we know that you often bring people together through events, activities, and essential services – for remote, urban, and even virtual communities, or perhaps something in between!

But whether a church offers support for the elderly, runs a Sunday School, supplies the venue for an adult education class or hosts an amateur dramatics performance – the value this brings to the welfare and wellbeing of the local and surrounding community is often dependent on the building which you meet in being fit for purpose and serving your needs.

That’s why, as part of the Heritage Property Initiative, we’re trying to collect information on the types of activities which are taking place in Baptist Churches’ listed buildings!

From how many of our churches hold multiple services in different languages, to how far attendees travel to join in. Whether you share your building with another congregation, and what events and activities you run or generously host. Do you provide the location for a community business? Is there anything you wish you could do but just can’t because of the restraints of your building?

This information will be extremely important to us in planning our future support because it helps us to understand the particular needs of Baptist churches who look after and meet in listed buildings. We know that a church which serves multiple and diverse congregations is likely to need different facilities and advice than a remote church which provides the only public building in a rural community. Knowing exactly who uses your building and how will enable us to provide you with the most appropriate and beneficial advice and assistance.

And this is not least because more and more churches are adapting and using their listed buildings in creative ways to better serve their missional and community needs – and we want to help you ensure that your building is fit for purpose too. As well as assist churches in tackling diversity and inclusion needs by breaking down barriers to accessibility.

So, if you have 10-15 minutes, then please help us improve our support by sharing some general information on how your building is used via this quick questionnaire HERE.
