Highfield Community Baptist Church

  • Covid has pushed the church to adapt in ministry

  • Broadcasting a Sunday service on Youtube through the pandemic has enabled this small church to reach out to people beyond previous boundaries

Rushden StephenPearmanHighfield Church is part of an estate in Rushden, Northants.

We are 25 in number and mainly elderly. However we have a big heart and what we do, we do well.

The last two years have, like many, pushed us to adapt in ministry. This has made us question each event we hold. Should we run it or cancel it, or even move on from it.

We have always had regular prayer times, but Covid meant a sudden change – for the better!

RushdenWe used to meet weekly at the church and around six people would come. In the pandemic we moved, like most to Zoom. Now have anything up to 18 on Tuesday nights. We have also held some Prayer Clock events, allocating an hour to members to pray for specific needs.

Highfield has struggled with the tensions of keeping within the legal restrictions during Covid, while trying to maintain being a church within and ministering to the community. Using social media, tv screen notice boards, and broadcasting our Sunday service on Youtube has enabled us to reach out to people beyond previous boundaries.

Having discovered that most of our folk would not come to our normal Christmas Day service, we changed to a more open Christmas Eve event. This saw a diverse number of people joining us – doubling numbers from recent Christmas Day services.

We continue to Sponsor children in Zimbabwe and South Africa; and have now forged a link with the local Homeless shelter - being able to provide a canopy to cover their yard.

We are so thankful for the funding we receive from Home Mission
