Reaching more of Peru’s river pastors

BMS World Mission workers were able to meet with isolated Christians in Amazon communities and invite them to its training courses thanks to generous gifts for its River pastors training centre appeal

“Muchos gracias hermanos, que Dios los bendiga grandemente."

These are the words of BMS local worker Pastor Luis Alvarado Dolly, to all those who gave to the BMS River pastors training centre appeal. So far, it has have raised almost £18,000! His message to all who have donated is: “Many thanks, brothers and sisters. May God bless you greatly.”

Thanks to your gifts, Pastor Luis and the BMS team at the Nauta Integral Mission Training Centre (NIMTC) in Peru’s Amazon region have recently been able to invite 24 isolated pastors to attend the centre’s residential training weeks in 2017. They did this, in part, when they travelled by boat along the River Marañon in October, visiting remote communities and running some taster training sessions.

The team also plan to travel to the River Nanay later this year to invite up to ten more pastors to the 2017 training events.

BMS worker Laura-Lee Lovering, who oversees the running of NIMTC, has a message, too:

Thank you from BMS worker Laura-Lee Lovering from BMS World Mission on Vimeo

The centre in Nauta is providing training for pastors from villages in the Amazon jungle who have been working for the Lord for years, with very little or no training or support. Your gifts mean that the work can continue and grow – equipping even more pastors to share Jesus with their communities and help people live life to the full.

It’s not too late to give to the River pastors training centre appeal.

As well as receiving basic theological education, Christians attending training weeks at the centre learn practical skills to benefit their communities, such as how to prevent illnesses and how to budget. They also learn about biblical, sustainable and productive ways of farming, and have the opportunity to live in community with other pastors – people they may never have otherwise got the chance to meet.

BMS is really excited about the six training weeks coming up in 2017, and the potential impact that the men and women of God who decide to attend the events could have in their communities in the future – becoming confident evangelists equipped to practically help their neighbours live healthier and more secure lives.

Thank you so much for playing your part in this exciting, life-bringing project! We couldn’t do it without you.

Please pray for those considering joining our training at NIMTC next year, that God will remove any obstacles and enable them to be there. Pray too for the team at the centre and for the visiting speakers who make the training possible, that God would encourage and use them.

Find out more about the wonderful Pastor Luis, who has been central to the development of the Nauta centre, in this story.

With special thanks to the Poynton Baptist Church Insight Team, who recently visited the work in Peru’s Amazon, for the video and for their support of the BMS work in Nauta.
