Helping families prepare for disaster in Peru

El Niño, the extreme weather phenomenon that strikes every two to seven years, caused widespread destruction in 2015. BMS World Mission is helping families affected in Peru

A roof is a simple thing. We sit, work, sleep and live under one every day. Roofs shelter us from storms. They keep us warm and dry. And we probably don’t think much about them at all.

But two communities of Peru’s Piura Province have been dreaming of roofs. When your home is hit by torrential rain and strong winds and you don’t have a good roof, life is very precarious. In the Piura Province, the simple roofs people do have were battered and broken by El Niño last year. If extreme weather strikes again – and it almost definitely will – they and their families are open to disaster.
That’s why BMS World Mission has given a grant to help 50 families in these communities build strong, weather-resistant roofs. The roofs will be made from zinc sheeting and will provide a sense of security for families who are living with uncertainty.
BMS is also training the families in what to do in the face of a disaster, so that both they and their houses can be ready if and when they are hit by extreme weather in the future.

Local churches are implementing this project on the ground, and by funding it BMS is empowering the Church in Piura Province to be the hands and feet of Christ. The churches are coming alongside their communities and empowering them to be resilient in the face of our changing climate.
Your gifts to BMS disaster recovery have made this happen. Thank you.

Help BMS be prepared to respond to disasters when they happen: give to BMS disaster recovery today.
