Pray for Ecuador

BMS World Mission is standing with Ecuador in prayer after the weekend’s tragic earthquake - and offers the following prayer points

Reports of earthquakes have filled news headlines this weekend. In Ecuador, hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands more have been injured.

BMS World Mission has a long history of partnership with the country. We’re looking into the best way we can respond to the tragedy, in partnership with the Baptist Relief and Development (BReaD) Network, and right now we are asking you to pray with us.

Latest reports indicate that 272 people died in Ecuador’s 7.8 magnitude quake on Saturday evening (17 April), with a further 1,500 people injured. The country’s President, Rafael Correa, says: "Everything can be rebuilt, but lives cannot be recovered, and that's what hurts the most."

Please join us in praying for the people and leaders of Ecuador.

  •     Pray for the people looking for those still missing in the rubble – for protection and courage.
  •     Pray for those who have lost loved ones – that they will know comfort and strength as they mourn this tragedy.
  •     Pray for those who have lost their homes and possessions – that they will have access to the food, shelter and relief they need.
  •     Pray for those administering the relief efforts – for wisdom as to the best way to respond to the great need in Ecuador.
  •     Pray for Christians in the country – that they will be a source of hope and comfort in a dark time.
  •     Pray for safety as people and infrastructure are affected by further aftershocks – that no more lives would be lost.
  •     Pray for our Baptist partners in South America as they get involved in the relief effort in Ecuador – that they will know God’s leading and that we at BMS can support them well.

Thank you.
