Episode 2: What does discrimination look like?
We like to present our life together as Baptists as welcoming. Indeed, "All Welcome" will be a phrase familiar to us from Baptist church noticeboards and websites. And yet, if we listen carefully to others who do not fit the perceived norms of our Baptist communities, we will hear stories of discrimination and exclusion. This is sometimes accidental and sometimes, sadly, deliberate. This episode asks how discrimination is experienced within our congregations and other gatherings, and how some are especially disadvantaged by the intersection of multiple types of difference.
Jane Day, Baptists Together Centenary Enabler, talks to Charmaine and Tim about some of what she has heard in listening to the voices of women in Baptist ministry. She notes the progress that has been made, but also the discrimination that remains, and she gives some tips for personal good practice.
Length 19 minutes.
