Soul Survivor - New Testament in One Year

The New Testament is printed in the regular order, but divided into 365 sections

NT in one yearSoul Survivor
New Testament in One Year
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 2014
ISBN 978-1-444-79679-7
Reviewer: Pieter Lalleman

This is an edition of the New Testament in the NIV translation (version 2011). On behalf of Soul Survivor Mike Pilavachi and Andy Croft have written brief words of welcome and introduction, and there’s a ten-page ‘Great Big Bible Timeline’ by Nick Page.

After this the NT is printed in the regular order, divided into 365 sections which are dated from September 1 till August 31. No further comments or notes have been added.

The hope is that in this way young people will read the NT, beginning when the new school / university year starts. This organisation of the material means that Matthew is read until October 15 and that on December 25 the reading is from Luke 23; John 1 follows on December 28.

In addition, Soul Survivor has launched a dedicated website which also contains readings for those who want to read the entire Bible in one year. The present book has an ebook version and there is an app.

(Almost) anything that gets Christians to read their Bibles is to be welcomed and this project is a good one. It would have been more attractive if the order of the books of the NT had been changed in such a way that gospels and letters alternated. But if you have a young person, you could hardly give a better present than this good-looking book.

The Revd Dr Pieter Lalleman is Acadamic Dean and Tutor of New Testament at Spurgeon's College
