Creative Communion

Given Assembly's London setting, it was fitting there was a distinct multicultural flavour to communion on Sunday morning

Worship was led by Aradhna (pictured), a band that fuses Indian devotional music with Christ-centred themes, with the majoirty in Hindi. The Revd Karl Johnson, general secretary of the Jamaica Baptist Union, read the invitation.

He was joined by the Revd Regina Klaas, general secretary of the Union of Evangelical Free Churches in Germany.

Interspersed between the invitation and the breaking of bread the Revd Kumar Rajagopalan, of the London Baptist Association, and BMS World Mission worker Hyeyoung spoke about memories of Jesus.

'Do you remember when Jesus appointed the 72 and sent them out two by two ahead of him, entrusting the preparation of his ministry, his teaching, his healing into their hands? And how full of joy and excitement he was on their return at what they had experienced in proclaiming the nearness of the kingdom?' said Kumar.

'I remember when my mum first told me about my uncle who I had never met, he was captured by North Korean soldiers during the Korean war,' said Hyeyoung. 'As I prepare to be a mission worker I am truly grateful that God has given me the courage instead of fear and has placed his calling, his love for North Koreans in our hands.'

Aradhna played as both the bread and cups were distributed. Communion also saw the welcome of new churches into the Union, which included fellowships from Dover to Whitley Bay, and Sheffield to Havant. The session included the usual Sunday morning Methodist fellowship.
