As good stewards of God’s earth in a time of climate change, we have a responsibility to reduce our carbon emissions as much as possible. However, there will always be some emissions that can’t be avoided. Offsetting provides a way to financially support BMS projects that will benefit communities and tackle climate change in areas where the ecosystem is fragile and under threat. The Church of England has committed to being net-zero by 2030.  They have developed a suite of resources to help churches consider how to reduce their environmental and carbon footprint of their activities and buildings as part of sharing in God’s Mission to people and all of creation.  These will be of help to churches considering development of their church premises and manses.  However, professional advice should be sought in developing details plans.

Climate Sunday
The Climate Sunday initiative is calling on all local churches, Christian denominations, ‘streams’ and networks to hold a climate-focused service on a convenient date from 6 September 2020. At this service congregations will be encouraged to make a short and simple commitment to greater action to address climate change in their own place of worship and community, and to raise their voice to urge bolder action by governments.

Doxecology, by Resound Worship, is a collection of 13 contemporary, congregational worship songs on themes of creation, ecology and Christian hope. Alongside the 13-track album there are scores and charts, backing tracks and lyric videos (with streaming permission), and an accompanying book of studies with contributions from some leading scholars and practitioners in the fields of environmental concern and worship.

Eco Church
Eco Church is A Rocha UK’s award scheme for churches in England and Wales who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth. A free online survey and supporting resources are designed to equip your church to express your care for God’s world in your worship and teaching; in how you look after your buildings and land; in how you engage with your local community and in global campaigns, and in the personal lifestyles of your congregation.  The actions you take will count towards a prestigious Eco Church Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

Utility Aid are an energy broker who have been working with churches of the Baptists Together network for several years.  They offer services to enable churches to reduce their carbon footprint.
   
YCCN
Young Christian Climate Network
The YCCN was launched at the beginning of August 2020.   This new network is an action-focused community of Christians in the UK aged 18-30, choosing to follow Jesus in the pursuit of climate justice and who are looking to act on climate change.
