Data Protection and the UK GDPR
The subject of Data Protection is one which churches should not ignore irrespective of their size or the amount of personal information they hold or process. It is important, however, to see this as a way of ensuring that we, as churches, are helping to protect individuals against the unfair use of their personal information rather than something we have been told we “have to do”. The Baptist Union has been working to support churches in this area by providing a suite of data protection documents for churches and conducting training webinars.
Useful documents which we have produced on this subject can be accessed by clicking here or using the link 'Data protection documents' on the right
This includes a template policy, sample privacy statements, suggested data retention schedule and some training materials.
Please note that we regularly update these as we are made aware of developments.
If you have any questions about Data Protection and GDPR which are not covered in the information we have produced, please

Training materials for use in a church meeting or similar gathering can be found on our
Data Protection Documents page.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has responsibility for overseeing the area of Data Protection. Here are some links to information you may find helpful:

Guidance about the fee structure and exemptions from registration
The ICO have sections on their website aimed at 'small businesses'. They have also produced a helpful guide to IT security. Whilst this is aimed at small businesses it does provide useful guidance for all organisations.
