Half marathon triumph for Latin Link
Tonbridge Baptist Church member Jonathan Leeson has successfully run his second Reading Half Marathon for the international charity Latin Link.
The 61-year-old completed the race in an impressive 2hrs, 19 mins and 52 secs, a time he was pleased with given difficult personal circumstances.
'My wife very recently had a major cancer operation, resulting in my not being to train as much as I would have liked, so I am really pleased with the result,' he explained.
'I was just 4 mins 14 secs off my personal best half marathon time, set at last year’s Reading Half Marathon.'
Jonathan is the Reading-based charity’s South of England Area Representative – a job that usually sees him running around between churches in the region. He only took up marathon running relatively recently, with his first-ever half marathon was in London in 2008.
He is seeking sponsorship from local businesses and individuals for his Reading Half Marathon run. 'I want to raise £2,000 for this great cause,' he says.
'Latin Link members, mostly in Latin America, work with local Christians to meet both practical and spiritual needs, from caring for street children to training church leaders; from supporting prisoners to generating employment opportunities.'
