BeachLife mission 2014 'even bigger'
The BeachLife activity outreach for children and young people on Sheringham sea-front last August attracted more 200 children and young people, in a week of glorious weather, and the organisers are looking forward to the 2014 event.
Last summer’s activities kicked off each day with the “Beach Special”, where all ages came together at the cliff-top marquee on The Lees for music, games, drama and fun, and to introduce that day’s theme, which was one of the miracles of Jesus. Guest appearances from the Funky Chicken, the Gorilla, and “Mrs Viennetta” with her bizarre ice-creams added to the frolics.
The children and young people then split into age-groups for their “Going Deeper” sessions to explore the day’s theme in more depth before breaking for lunch.
The afternoons saw an “egg parachute” challenge, micro-raft racing, mini-Olympics, and the special appearance of Christian illusionist Steve Price, with a circus-themed afternoon with barbecue on the last day. Evening activities for over-8’s included a treasure hunt, Laser-quest and beach sports, putting, and a “Sheroploy” trail around the town, all of which were well attended.
The infamous Tide Fight will return this year, as the tides will be favourable for the event.
“Last year’s BeachLife was a huge success, helped by glorious weather” said Richard Allen, co-ordinator of this year’s event. “But this year we will be building on that success with an event that is even bigger and better, as we bring the Good News of Jesus to Sheringham’s children and young people, as well as those on holiday.”
The outreach will run from Tuesday 26 to Friday 29 August 2014. There is a training afternoon for those interested in helping on team on Saturday June 28.
