Colourful Easter holiday club

Christ Church IpswichI wonder what colours Easter makes you think of? Red, black, green maybe tartan or a rainbow?

Christ Church (URC/Baptist) in Ipswich ran a one day holiday club, called “The Colours of Easter” during Holy Week.

Fifteen primary aged children had fun exploring the colours that made them sad and happy as they heard about the story of Easter with the help of Zoe & Zack, two very cheeky, chocolate-loving puppets. There were all sorts of craft activities, chat, games, puppet plays and stories to enjoy.

The songs learned were then taught to the adults who came at the end of the day, to hear more about what Easter was about. According to Zack and Zoe, eating lots of hot cross buns was the best bit!

'Easter is perhaps the most important festival in the Christian Church, but many kids don’t know the Easter story today,' said Moira Kleissner, who helped to organise the holiday club. 'So we decided to do something about it.

'We don’t have the professional children/youth workers attached to the church, just volunteers who give of their own free time to organise and run the club.

'We had a great time exploring the story, with reflective story sections, games, crafts, songs, puppet plays and hot cross buns. Fifteen kids now know what the Christian story is all about.........and still enjoyed all the chocolate!'
