Baptist Union Core Leadership Team Pray and Stand with Ukraine

The Core Leadership Team (CLT) of the Baptist Union of Great Britain join with the statement made by the European Baptist Federation (EBF) in denouncing the horrific and unprovoked Russian attacks on Ukraine.

We too will pray unceasingly for the people of Ukraine and cry out for God’s protection and justice for the vulnerable. We stand with them during this time of anxiety, fear, darkness and despair and cry out to God with them, that he might be their refuge and strength in times of unimaginable trouble.

We affirm and encourage the work of Ukrainian Baptists in reaching out in the love of Christ to those most affected by the conflict. We call upon those in power to use their courage, wisdom, and resources to make peace and to stop war.

We as European Baptists stand with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters ready to assist in humanitarian outreach in regions affected by the conflict.

Even in moments dark as these, we hope in God’s promise to teach us His ways and walk in His paths, so that the people of the world,

Shall beat their swords
into ploughshares,

and their spears into
pruning hooks;

nation shall not lift up sword
against nation,

neither shall they learn
war any more.

Isaiah 2:4

We will continue to work with our partners, including BMS World Mission to do all we can to alleviate the suffering in Ukraine and in Europe. We are also seeking ways we can support Ukrainian refuges who arrive in the United Kingdom. We have published this article which highlights prayers, reflections and ways to donate. You may also want to watch this video from Valerii Antoniuk, President of the Baptist Union of Ukraine.

The EBF is inviting everyone to join for an international prayer gathering on Zoom every Wednesday in March.

The Core Leadership Team (CLT) is an expression of covenant and interdependence for us as Baptists.  It draws together many of those offering leadership across our Movement (Regional Team Leaders, College Principals, Specialist Team Leaders, our President, Treasurer, General Secretary, the Moderators of Council and the Trustee Board, together with a leader from each of our current priority areas) and its purpose is to perceive what God is doing, to encourage flourishing across Baptists Together and to model together what it means to be a Kingdom Movement.
