A safe haven

New video highlights Stockton Baptist Church's loving welcome to asylum seekers and refugees in Stockton on Tees

In recent years Stockton Baptist Church has offered a loving welcome to asylum seekers and refugees in Stockton on Tees.

Its ministry was documented in this Baptists Together magazine article last year, and now a video has been made featuring the thoughts of those involved, both longtime members of the church and those seeking refuge.

The video, created by Ian Britton, is being released in time for Refugee Week (19 to 25 June). Churches are encouraged to use the video in a service or other occasion during that week or at another suitable time.

John Claydon, Regional Minister Team Leader, Northern Baptist Association, said many churches had recognised the call to welcome the stranger. ‘We celebrate and commend all those who have worked hard to welcome those God has placed amongst us.

‘Please pray for those seeking a new life in this country, the work of those offering support and give thanks that many have found new life in Christ and pray that many more will come to know Him.’

There are two version of the video, one 7 minutes long and the other 14 minutes long and can be viewed on YouTube.
