Support Services Update - May 2022

Dear Friends,

This month’s update is shorter than usual because we are focussed on our preparations for Baptist Assembly which is happening this coming weekend in Bournemouth.

We are delighted to see that the weather is set fair and our venue, the Bournemouth International Centre, is right next to the beach! How about combining some time on the seafront with gathering with your fellow Baptists from across the country? Don’t worry if you haven’t booked in advance because tickets are available on the door (card-payment only). If you can’t make it in person, we are streaming the main stage online throughout Saturday and Sunday.  Our website has all the detail on the programme, venue and how to join online.

This will be our first in-person Baptist Assembly for 3 years, and we are really encouraged to be able to gather after operating Assembly online in 2020 and 2021. We’ve got an exciting programme including our keynote speaker Alan Donaldson who is General Secretary of the European Baptist Federation. As regular readers of this email will know, EBF are on the front line of our Baptist response to the war in Ukraine and it will be interesting to hear more of this from Alan.

One of the major things we do each year in the lead up to Assembly is to publish our Annual Report prior to its presentation at the AGM session. This year’s report is now available at www.baptist.org.uk/annualreport and a slimmed down Annual Review in hard copy, which every minister, treasurer and secretary should have received this week alongside the summer edition of Baptists Together magazine. You can order extra copies in our online shop. It is full of stories of important Kingdom work taking place across our Baptist family, despite the huge challenges that 2021 threw at us. I hope that in reading it you, like me, will be encouraged that God is at work among us!

Finally, this month we have launched our new pilot scheme for enabling people aspiring to Baptist ministry to fund their training. This includes a new Baptist training loan option in partnership with Kingdom Bank and a new model for raising support via Stewardship. We hope that this will help to encourage the next generation of leaders to follow their calling into Baptist ministry. We have published a new leaflet that gives all the details. If you know anyone who is exploring a call, please do make sure they have seen this.

I hope to see many of you over the weekend. Do come and say hello at the Support Services stand in the Networking Zone, Hive 3. As always, I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have either by email or in person.

Yours in Christ,

Richard
