Support Services Update - January 2022

Dear Friends

As the Support Services Team, it’s rather obvious that our job is to be a support to others.  We see our job as helping you to run your church well, so that you can fulfil your part of God’s mission. I think the headlines this week have reinforced that while our mission is important, it is critical to do it in the right way or we risk undermining that mission. We want our churches to have a good reputation among outsiders (see 1 Tim 3:7). With that in mind, I’m excited to start 2022 by launching two new initiatives that we hope will help our member churches to operate well.

Firstly, I am really excited that we are launching a new system called Church Healthcheck. This system is a web-based self-assessment tool for churches to review their operating practices to ensure that you are meeting your obligations and have the key things in place to enable you to be successful in your local mission.  Answering some simple yes/no questions will guide you to the advice and guidance you need to get on the right track. We are launching with an initial set of topics and plan to add more in the coming months. You can do every section, or just one. To get started just go to www.churchhealthcheck.org and follow the instructions. Please do get in touch to give us your feedback so we can continue to develop this new system.

Secondly, we have launched a Baptists Together Treasurers Facebook group. This is a private Facebook group to allow our Treasurers and others involved in finance in Baptists Together organisations to support each other by sharing their wisdom and experience. We hope this will be particularly helpful for new treasurers who would appreciate some guidance from those who have been doing it for a while. You can find the group here and request to join. 

We have some further ideas in the pipeline, but please do get in touch if you have thoughts about how we can support you.

Finally, I am excited about the plans that are building for Baptist Assembly in May and our first opportunity to gather in person since 2019. There are more details below – we hope to see you there!
