Day for Chaplains 24
A Day for Baptist Chaplains

Monday 22 April 2024

Online via Zoom

For the last two years, Baptist chaplains have gathered for a national day online. We are pleased to be able to repeat this in 2024, on Monday 22 April. It provides our 200 chaplains with a further chance for connection, learning, and mutual support. Once again, there are three sessions – morning, afternoon and evening – each lasting up to one hour and three quarters. And as before, you are welcome to attend one, two or all three of these, as time permits.

  • In the morning, 10:00 to 11:45, Glen Marshall and Liz Shercliff will help us reflect on our Baptist theology of chaplaincy. Glen is principal of Northern Baptist College and Liz is the College's chaplaincy studies programme manager and a tutor in biblical studies and practical theology.
  • In the afternoon, 14:00 to 15:45, Jane Day and Helen Cameron will share insights into chaplaincy gleaned from Project Violet, the collaborative research project that seeks to investigate women’s experiences in ministry whilst also developing them. Jane is the Centenary Enabler at Baptists Together and a staff member at Regent's Park College. Helen is a research fellow at Wesley House, Cambridge and Regent's Park College, Oxford.
  • In the evening, 19:00 to 20:45, we have a chance to 'sit round the chaplaincy campfire' and share stories, prayer and worship, facilitates by Roy Searle. Roy is one of our pioneer ambassadors and is a companion of the Northumbrian Community.
Anyone involved in chaplaincy, paid or volunteer, formal or informal, is welcome to join us. It may also prove a useful day for anyone wishing to explore chaplaincy. This year, we are also inviting our sisters and brothers in chaplaincy in Baptist Union of Wales and Baptist Union of Scotland.

Cost per person: The event is free.

To book, please complete the form below.  If you have any questions about the day, please email Tim Fergusson.
