Safeguarding : Volunteer Support Services

Written 6 April 2020
Updated 5 March 2021

As many more churches start or continue with volunteer support services to their local communities we hope that the two new guidance notes are of help to you.

The first note clarifies when DBS checks are needed for those carrying out volunteer activities in the community on behalf of the church eg, delivering food, delivering medication, checking up on the elderly and vulnerable.

The second note is to help those with safeguarding responsibilities as they brief people who are volunteering. It lays out some of the basic essentials of safeguarding good practice and also gives a set of short case studies based on community volunteering situations. If you are forming or have formed a new community volunteering team this will be useful tool as you brief them on safeguarding good practice.

A copy of this note was sent by email to all registered DBS verifiers, safeguarding trustees and those who have the role of 'Designated Person for Safeguarding' in Baptist churches.
