The Sanctuary

MapDay29SanctuaryA good news story from Watchet

Watchet is a small port on the north Somerset coast and at the heart of the community there is a faithful Baptist church that has been supported for over 10 years by Home Mission.

29SanctuaryBuildingIn the last few years the church had major building issues which raised the question – do we repair, sell and rebuild or do something completely different?  The building was sold and they decided to do something completely different. The church meets on a Sunday in a school hall and with the proceeds of the church sale they purchased a shop in the heart of the town. This shop was converted into a mission / prayer station called ‘The Sanctuary’ and it is very well used by the church as a mission station with the Friday night community meal being a highpoint.

29SanctuaryPeopleThe church itself has continued to grow spiritually and numerically and they have requested that their Home Mission Grant to be halved for 2015, with the intention to be off Home Mission funding in 2016.  They are now looking ahead towards future ministry and the possibility of more staff to help with a growing vibrant church – they simply want to say a big thank you to the Baptist family for all the support that has been given and made this ministry possible.
Nigel Manges
Regional Minister

Please pray:

  • Give thanks for this growing vibrant church which is meeting the needs of many people in the community in Watchet
  • For the people who have contact with the church each week through The Sanctuary - at the youth cafe, groups for older people and a weekly community meal
  • Give thanks that the need for Home Mission funding has been reduced this year, enabling this money to be used elsewhere
