Berwick Baptist Church

Over the last year, while working as pastor of Berwick Baptist Church, in a part-time capacity, we have seen God at work in many ways.  This is the beginning of a journey of renewal.

While many of the existing ministries - the Ladies’ Bible Study and Dot Club (the children’s club) - are thriving, we have introduced new ventures which are seeing some success.

The church felt it was time to restart a regular prayer meeting, and in conjunction with this we have taken the month of January in 2014 and 2015 to set aside as a time of fasting and corporate prayer.

The other new ministries set up within the church which meet on a monthly basis are:
  • the Young Adult Group - which attracts from 8-16 young people, both couples and singles;
  • the Men’s Night - again this can see from 6-14 men of varying ages;
  • a Contemporary evening service held on the first Sunday of every month, which is open to all churches and numbers can vary from 15-30.

Now that we are receiving a grant from the Home Mission fund, this has enabled the church to offer me for full time hours.  This has made a huge difference to my work load, and is enabling me to give time to building relationships with local ministers, with the Travelling community and to consider new ventures.

Recently our Church Secretary has suggested that we develop a chaplaincy amongst the shopkeepers on our local high street.  This is something that the deacons and church will be considering.  It is because of the support of the Home Mission that such ventures can be considered.  As a leadership and a church we are looking forward with expectation at what God will do next.
John Hodgkins
Pastor, Berwick Baptist Church

Please pray:

  • Give thanks for the thriving ladies’ group and children’s club, and the support and discipleship they offer to members
  • For the new ministries being started with young adults and men -  that relationships with God and one another will deepen
  • For John and the church as they discover where God is leading them next
  • For the deacons and church as they prayerfully consider developing a chaplaincy amongst shopkeepers
